Switching providers and data export
Your data belongs to you. This page explains how to export it from CitexNode and move to another provider or your own environment (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854, Data Act).
How to switch
- Let us know by ticket in the dashboard or by e-mail to info@citexnode.de which service you want to move. We will help you with the export.
- Export your data using one of the methods below while the service is still running.
- Check with the new provider that everything has arrived completely.
- End the service with us by not renewing it, or cancel it via Cancel contracts here. For domains, the new registrar takes over the domain with the transfer code.
We charge no fees for the export or the switch. Keep in mind: once the term and the grace period have ended, we delete a service with all its data permanently (see the terms of service). So export in good time beforehand.
Exportable data, methods and formats
This overview is the register of the data you can take with you. You will find guides for each method in the documentation (opens in a new tab).
| Product | Data | Method | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game servers and Discord bots | Files, worlds, configurations, code | SFTP (password or SSH key), file manager in the dashboard | Original files, unchanged |
| Game servers and Discord bots | Backups | Download in the dashboard under Backups | Archive file |
| Game servers and Discord bots | MySQL databases | Credentials (host, port, user, password) in the dashboard, export with a MySQL tool | SQL dump |
| VPS (KVM), cloud servers, dedicated servers | Entire content of the machine | Full root or administrator access via SSH; transfer e.g. with rsync, scp or an imaging tool | Your choice, e.g. files, archives, disk images |
| Domains | Transfer code (auth code) | Retrieve in the dashboard under Domains → Auth code | Text |
| Domains | DNS records | Shown in the dashboard's DNS editor | Table (type, name, value, TTL) |
| Account | Account data, services, transactions, tickets | Data export under Account → Data | JSON (machine-readable) and PDF |
Limitations
- The file manager downloads single files, not whole folders. For folders, use SFTP or a backup.
- Backups of VPS, cloud and dedicated servers are snapshots at the data centre and cannot be downloaded as a file. You transfer the content via root access.
- DNS records cannot currently be exported as a zone file; you copy them from the DNS editor.
- Configuration that only applies to our platform (e.g. schedules, shares, notifications) cannot be transferred automatically.
- TeamSpeak servers and web hosting: we arrange the export with you by ticket.
Locations and applicable law
Our servers are located in data centres in Germany (Frankfurt am Main) and the Netherlands (Eygelshoven). The platform itself runs on Amazon Web Services in the Frankfurt am Main region. The infrastructure is therefore subject to European Union law and to German or Dutch law. You can see which location hosts your service in the dashboard.
Protection against unlawful access
We only hand data over to authorities when we are legally obliged to, and we check every request beforehand. The connection to the dashboard and API is encrypted. Our team only accesses your services for operations, for your support request or to fend off abuse, and every such access appears in your activity log. More on this in the privacy policy.
